I really don't get why believers today would think that the law is abolish and that it has nothing to do with our faith. What is funny is that many persons if not all have believed that commandments such as thou shalt not lie, fornicate and committ adultery still stands except Keeping the Sabbath. That makes no sense to me if its that the law is abolish, then in that case it would be okay to fornicate... But quite frankly that is not the case!.. The law had everything to with Jesus in fact the Law points to Jesus. Yes we cannot be saved by the law, it is by Grace we are saved but the Lord expects us to obey His commandments. Ezekiel 36:27- And I will put my spirit within you and cause you to walk in my statutes, and ye shall keep my judgements and do them. The Spirit was a sign of the new covenant in which God had spoken though His pophets that would helo those who believe and love the Lord to keep these very same commandments or law that many say is abolished. Jer 31:31-34, Hebrew 10:16. Yes the very same New Testament (New Covenant) in which they make reference to by saying " we are New Testament believers and not Old Testament believers." --- It is because of lack of knowledge why people say these things. My prayer is that God will open the eyes of the believers.
Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16824957324446151989noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2641801968722709818.post-61308692766560906532015-11-06T01:09:05.066-05:002015-11-06T01:09:05.066-05:00Thank you for your comment Foster. I think a majo...Thank you for your comment Foster. I think a majority of your questions can be answered by addressing the second of your questions. "For the law was given by Moses, but grace and truth came through Jesus Christ." You are quoting John 1:17 (My quote here is from the NKJV). The first thing that should be noted about this verse in English translations is that the word "but" is in italics (if the publisher is honest with the reader). The reason for that is that the word "but" does not exist in the Greek or Aramaic originals from which our English translations are derived. All words in most English translations appearing in italic are not found in the originating documents. They are added by the translator supposedly to make the proper sentence syntax in English. This is problematic in that the translator interjects his own interpretation into the verse. By adding the word "but" it profoundly changes the meaning of the verse. This verse is not setting law and grace as contrasts. On the contrary, John is pointing out a unity in Christ and the law.
We have to understand that the scriptures were intended to be read and understood by a contemporary audience. In other words, written by and for the people at the time and culture in which they were written. If we are to understand the Bible properly, we must read it in its historic, cultural and linguistic context. This requires a tremendous paradigm shift on our part which is not easy to accomplish.
The rest of your questions are assuming this contrast; that there is a juxtaposition, or a kind of opposite between law and grace. A careful reading and studying of the text will reveal that this is not the case. Preconceived notions are most difficult to overcome. May I suggest a book that will help, it is title “Copernicus and the Jews: the Separation of Church and Faith” by Daniel Gruber. You can find it available from a number of sources. Keep studying. Why does it say The law came through moses but Grace and truth came through JESUS CHRIST? Why does it say Christ is the end of the law for THOSE WHO BELIEVE? Why would paul ,prayer for Isreal to be saved,If they are keeping the law. ? Can you believe by Faith in Jesus and still keep the Law. ? Can you keep the Law ?
